A New Zealand court held that the advertisements. NET does not have promotion for gaming operators and that poker tournaments are not gambling but a form of competition.
The Department of Internal Affairs has recently accused TVWorks Limited had breached the Gambling Act 2003. The department said that several advertising PokerStars.net have promoted a foreign operator.
Judge David Harvey J dismissed all charges. Lawyers for TVWorks, Mike Heron and Joe Edwards, Russell McVeagh, has made the following statements:
• The site does not promote pokerstars.net an operator, or induces the Kiwis playing abroad.
• The site pokerstars.net not a gambling site online and is not synonymous with pokerstars.com.
• The APPT not the “play” in terms of the law because it is a competition, with an entrance fee and prize money.
