Born in 1957, is a poker player Chinese, twice world champion. In 1952, the Chan family moved to Hong Kong in 1968 in Phoenix, Arizona and in 1973 in Houston, Nevada.
His family operates restaurants and Chan, at age 21 he moved to Las Vegas, leaving the University of Houston, to become a professional player of poker.Began a major player in the late ’80s, when he won twice in row (1987 and 1988) the main event World Series of Poker.
In 2005, Chan was the first to win 10 bracelets (titles) in the WSOP, but soon joined by Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth Jr., who passed. Chan has a habit of bringing an orange at the table for good luck and many have followed his example. In 2002 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Chan in February 2005 was in the $ 400,000 Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament. In 2005, Chan has worked with Mark to realize Karow Play Poker Like Johnny Chan (ISBN 1-933074-48-5), a book that teaches how to play in different specialties and variations of poker. On 28 November 2006 released a second title: Million Dollar Hold’em: Winning Big in Limit Cash Game (ISBN 1-58042-200-4), which focuses on limit Hold’em.
